January Issue of the ACR Bulletin

Board Timing Change
  • Jan issue content: highlight article on timing of boards to be presented in interview format.
  • Good way to get the word out to private practitioners.
  • Highlight that the focus of the boards is changing (theoretically)
  • Other people to interview:
  • Vydareny
  • Jackson
  • A private practice person on board of chancellors
  • Ask ABR for a press release or a fact sheet
  • Contact APDR and SCARD for opinions
  • Questions to answer:
  • Rad onc boards changed secondary to changes in length in the residency not b/c of similar issues in rays, T/F
  • When did we used to take boards?
  • How does this affect fellowship?
Board Timing Issue

Tactics:
  • letter to ABR with our position
  • article in January (deadline of the story is Nov 15, send notes out by Oct 15)
  • residents need to change behavior to drive the issue
  • Auntminnie discussion pages- put the letter on here
  • identify other resident sections of other groups that may be willing to write a letter to the ABR
  • This can be addressed at the crisis of education panel at A3CR2 (Note: Clay expressed an interest in writing something about the crisis in academic education)
Jesse will find out what the A3CR2 stance is and get chair to write a letter similar or issue a similar letter

Young Physician Section
  • Doesn't really require immediate action
  • Board of Chancellors is planning on addressing this, we'll wait and see
  • Membership task force may be an appropriate venue for addressing the problem (Steve Perlmutter to be involved)
  • Increasing funding for RPS may help
  • Sponsoring residents who are interested in ACR to AFIP at the time of the annual meeting
  • Committee positions may be a way for residents to get involved: Ace, Ray, Karla (Dr. Frey will give them a list of open committees), list existence will be communicated to Perlmutter
2003 RPS Annual Meeting
  • Short turn around between this years meeting and next years meeting
  • What are we going to do at the next meeting? Think about this for January.
  • Goal: Send out the resolutions ahead of time
MRI Training
  • Survey currently underway
  • Data will go to Tracy Martin, summarize ideas of MRI education
  • Solutions may be based on this data or obtaining more data may be necessary
  • Auntminnie survey may be an effective way to get more data
  • Data will be given to a resident on RRC (Tracy Martin)
Resident Section of the ACR Web Site
  • New website will be up a running soon
  • Send suggestions/recommendations to Chris once you have a look at it.
Adjournment
There being no further business, Dr. Wald adjourned the meeting.
