Words From a Fellow RPS Meeting Participant
Hello. I am a third year resident at University of Texas-Houston and this will be my third time attending the ACR RPS and annual meetings. As I was registering for last year's annual meeting, I reflected on how little I knew about the ACR prior to going to my first meeting. I spent a lot of time at that meeting just trying to figure out what the ACR is and what it does. To save you some time, I thought I would put together a few helpful hints for people attending the meeting for the first time. Hopefully these suggestions will make your experience more rewarding.
  1. Prior to the meeting visit the ACR Web site (www.acr.org). Browse through the various sections to get a feel for what the ACR does. In particular, make sure to visit the resident section .
  2. Visit your state's radiological society Web site. Links are available in the chapter section of the ACR Web site. If your state does not have a Web site, some interesting sites include Massachusetts (www.massrad.org), Texas (www.txrad.org) Radiological Societies and the Radiological Society of New Jersey (http://www.rsnj.org/).
  3. Preview the resolutions for this year's meeting. You will need your ACR member number to access them. This is available on your membership card or Kelly Foster (kellyf@acr.org) can help you. The RPS executive committee will highlight select resolutions during the resident's meeting.
  4. Attend the lecture provided by Dr. Valerie Jackson (ACR President) Saturday during lunch. The framework for the ACR governing bodies is somewhat confusing. She will provide a good overview of the ACR.
  5. Make sure to take a moment to look up info on Washington, D.C. There will be plenty of time to explore the sights.
Hope you find these helpful. If any of the residents who will be returning to the meeting for a second time have additional suggestions please send them to Kelly Foster and she will forward them.

Looking forward to D.C.-
Karla Sepulveda

RPS Executive Committee Position Descriptions
This information is available on the ACR Web site, in the AMCLC section. CLICK HERE for a direct link. It outlines the responsibilities of each of the five executive committee positions. With the exception of the chair, we will hold elections for these positions during the Mon. morning RPS breakfast. If you have an interest in or questions about running for an elected position prior to the meeting, please contact one of the current executive committee members (see listing below) or Kelly Foster at either kellyf@acr.org or 800.227.5463, ext. 4917.

Introduction to the ACR Council Meeting
This information is available on the ACR Web site, in the AMCLC section. CLICK HERE for a direct link. The intent of this document is to orient you to the ACR council meeting, how to best prepare for the meeting and procedures used by the council to conduct business. The ACR annual meeting is a governance meeting, during which the ACR sets policy. The RPS works to represent the interests of residents and fellows before the council.

Resolutions to Review Prior to the Meeting
In order to make the most of the limited time the RPS has to meet prior to the council meeting, a committee of residents has reviewed all of the resolutions and selected those that may be of particular interest to residents and fellows. This information is also available on the ACR Web site, in the AMCLC section. CLICK HERE for a direct link. Please review these resolutions and others you feel may be important for the section to discuss.

Radiology Advocacy and Congressional Visits
In addition to the council meeting, this meeting also offers educational sessions on issues facing radiology in the political arena. See the AMCLC meeting program for more details, CLICK HERE. You will learn about these issues and have the opportunity to share this information with your representatives on Capitol Hill. If you did not indicate on the meeting registration form that you wanted to meet with your representatives and you would like to try to make an appointment, please contact Melody Ballesteros at either melodyb@acr.org or 800.227.5463, ext. 4547.

Reminder about the Meeting Dress Code
Attire at this year's meeting is business casual. Two exceptions, however, are the convocation ceremony on Sun. evening and the Congressional visits on Thurs. For these events business attire is appropriate.
