AFIP-Related Amendment Approved by the Senate
Thanks, in part, to the grassroots activities of the ACR advocates, the Iraqi supplemental bill (S. 965) was approved by the Senate last week, along with an Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP)-related amendment offered by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. The measure will now go to conference where differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill will be resolved.

TIt’s Not Too Late – Apply for the Moorefield Economics Fellowship Today
Applications are being accepted through April 15 by the ACR Department of Economics and Health Policy for the prestigious James M. Moorefield fellowship. The fellowship provides a radiology resident or fellow hands-on experience with the functions of the ACR Department of Economics and Health Policy and the ACR Commission on Economics. The two-week program is designed to better educate residents about reimbursement and medical policy issues, including development of new CPT® codes, the valuation process, Medicare national and local coverage of radiology and radiation oncology procedures, and coverage by third-party payers and managed care organizations.

Third- and fourth-year residents are invited to apply for one of the three available fellowship positions. Selected individuals will complete their fellowships at different times during the 2007-2008 academic year.

Visit the RFS Web site to download an application. For additional information on the Moorefield Economics Fellowship, please e-mail Evelyn Gilbert at egilbert@acr.org.

J.T. Rutherford Government Relations Fellowship — Call for Applications
Applications are due May 15 for the prestigious J.T. Rutherford Government Relations Fellowship. Residents may apply for one of six fellowships offered; final decisions will be made in early June 2007.

The Rutherford fellowship helps residents understand the state and federal legislative and regulatory processes and the ACR's role in them. Residents learn about the important roles the government plays in shaping the future of radiology. The one-week program includes a history of the ACR's congressional activities and the ways the ACR's government relations initiatives impact other College activities.

Selected individuals will complete their fellowships at different times during the 2007-2008 academic year; therefore, residents are required to be training in a residency program during the appointment.

Visit the RFS Web site to download an application. For additional information on the J.T. Rutherford Government Relations Fellowship, please contact Melody Ballesteros at mballesteros@acr.org.
