ACR to Launch "Face of Radiology" Campaign
The ACR will soon launch the "Face of Radiology" campaign to educate patients, payers, government officials, and other health care providers on exactly what radiologists do and why their education, training, skills, and experience are vital to providing the highest quality patient care.

This comprehensive effort, to begin in early 2008, will utilize grassroots efforts, advertising, public relations, patient education materials, and social media to deliver and reinforce the message to patients that "your radiologist is the physician expert in diagnosis, patient care, and treatment through medical imaging."

Visit the ACR Web site for more information and to provide your comments on this effort.

Coming Soon: The ACR-RFS Career Handbook
Members of the Resident and Fellow Section (RFS) Membership Committee have been hard at work putting together the first ACR Career Handbook. The handbook is designed to be a comprehensive manual with information on job searching, interview skills, contract negotiations, call bargaining, partnership track development and more. In addition, a "crash course" manual including summary points to review prior to beginning your job search will accompany the handbook.

Stay tuned for more information on the handbook and its availability.

New Direction for the ACR Oral Board Task Force
In October of 2007 the ABR Board of Trustees announced its plans for future changes in the initial qualifying and certifying examinations in diagnostic radiology (read the original announcement on the ABR Web site). In response to this announcement, the American College of Radiology (ACR) Oral Board Task Force has redirected its efforts and will now evaluate the implications this change will have on the future of the field. Task force members will be assessing the effects on resident and subspecialty practice, as well as academic and private practice.

Comment Today on ABR's Plan to Change the Boards
The ABR Board of Trustees will consider comments on its plans for future changes to the radiology board examinations at its winter meeting in early February. Click here to visit the ABR Web site and submit your comments by January 31.

New ACR Fellowship in Quality and Safety
The E. Stephen Amis Jr., M.D., Fellowship in Quality and Safety, sponsored by the Commission on Quality and Safety, will provide the opportunity for one radiology resident or fellow to obtain direct exposure to the functions of the ACR’s Department of Quality and Safety. The fellowship’s goal is to expose the candidate to various areas of the department, as well as the ACR’s Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference (AMCLC).

More information on this new fellowship, including an application, will be available on the RFS Web site.

2008 ACR AMCLC and RFS Meeting—Mark Your Calendars!
The Resident and Fellow Section will meet again this year in Washington, D.C., along with the ACR leadership during the ACR’s Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference (AMCLC). The AMCLC is viewed favorably by resident representatives from across the United States and Canada as a time to rejuvenate interest in the organizational side of radiology and as a time to see old friends.

Highlighting the meeting will be the seminars led by Richard Gunderman, M.D., Ph.D., invited back by popular demand for the sixth year. Highly regarded as a thought-provoking and motivational speaker, Dr. Gunderman will offer engaging sessions on leadership development and facilitate discussions on current issues in radiology. Hot topics this year will include the effects that moving the oral board exam may have on resident and fellow training, and the "Face of Radiology" campaign.

All residents are welcome. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend May 17-21, 2008.
